Colouring Catchup.....

This week I took a break from colouring my main book, Fantastisches Malbuch and I really enjoyed the break too.

Some background - I've never had an art lesson in my life and I consider myself an average colourer who just puddles along, trying to complete books, enjoy and challenge myself. These colouring posts are really a record for me, primarily, of what I coloured and some background to the colouring. I doubt that anyone will learn anything from them so don't expect a tutorial! Just me, rambling about my hobby!

First up I turned back to exploring blacks and greys in Secret Garden. I'm colouring the whole book in these colours. I added a brick wall around it to make it into a peep-hole into the garden, with a hint of moonlight in the centre.

Then I moved on to the next double-page spread in Secret Garden. I added in the wall again and managed to cover the words that Johanna put in this image with a background. For the first time I used a Posca black pen and I was pleased with it. Also for the first time I used a Crayola Light-up Tracing Pad to get the door into the wall. I was pleased with the way that this one turned out.

Next up was a long overdue return to The Tale of Peter Rabbit - review here. This is such a lovely book, which has Beatrix Potter's illustrations enlarged for us to colour and uses her text to tell the story. I'm aiming for a watercolour-ish look to this book and I'm using pencils and pastels.

And finally this week I started a new book, If the Cat Fits - review here. In this book it's the background that gets coloured as the furnishings are existing photos in the image. Then you can choose from many stickers on everything cat related to place wherever you like in the image. Here is a photo of the image before I started colouring -

And here is the finished version, with cat sticker in place. The roses were huge and I'm glad I kept to softer pink and yellow as they would have totally dominated the colouring. There is a soft background of Prisma Gingeroot.

See you next week probably.
