Elegant Designs of the Ages

Moira has put together an interesting collection of historical patterns from a wide time period and from many different cultures. There's something to appeal to everyone in this book.

Tell me more …

Inspiration for these patterns comes from medieval churches, Roman villas, Asian fabrics, a touch of the Gothic, Arabesque tiles, Celtic knot work and much more. There are several images with black backgrounds which I appreciate. If you've been looking for a new book of patterns, take a look at this one.

The detail isn't too fine in most of these images with line width mostly medium throughout. The image below that Helen coloured is one of the more detailed ones and she managed to do this with pens. I like the variety of the images and the few with black backgrounds. Unfortunately the period that the images relate to, isn't mentioned on each page, as that would have interested me.

Paper and Layout:

This is the paper and layout that we're familiar with in Dover publications. The drawings are all on single sided pages, don't run in to the spine and the pages are perforated for easy removal. Test your pens out first but it probably won't matter about bleed through as long as you use a protective sheet behind the image you're colouring.
Inside the front and back covers are finished, digitally coloured images that give you an idea or two.
