The Joy of Giving; with Daria Song

It's the time of year for giving, for being thankful and treasuring time we spend with those we love. So here is a special book from Daria, following a girl, her cat and conductor as they travel the world giving presents to strangers.
I'll be colouring this book right through, as something special to give a little girl, to be born in January. Fortunately I've got a couple of years to colour it in!

Comment:

We have waited some time for this third book by Daria Song to be published in English. It's been worth the wait.

Drawing:

Daria's drawing style totally draws you in. I think it is the amazing perspective she uses. You zoom down streets, into buildings and back into the sky again. Every page has something different so it has a visual coherence to it. There are more clocks in this book and then there's Phoebe the cat…..
Line width throughout is fine to medium and some of the drawing is detailed. There are a few partial black background images. Also there isn't too much blank white space around the images to cause background problems.

Layout and Paper:

Inside the loose leaf jacket is a poster image to colour. See the video above. In this book, the story itself isn't spread through the text. Most of it is in the front of the book and then just before the final section, the surprise, there is another text page.
At the back of the book is a visual index to the spreads, followed by an extra colouring page and a detachable notecard, which is detailed.
The paper is white with a bit of tooth. You will be able to test your pens on the index pages at the back. Many images do run through the spine and all pages are double-sided.
