Celebrate & Colour the Nativity

A new book from Felicity French is always welcome. and I haven't seen another colouring book based on the Nativity, although I'm sure there are some.
First of all, this book has nothing to do with lions! Lion is the name of the publisher, Lion Books.
For colour inspiration I recommend that you get along to your local library and find picture books on the Nativity by Jane Ray, Brian Wildsmith and Jan Pienkowski.
The colours these artists use will blow you away!

Comment:

There is text through this book too: a retelling by Antonia Jackson, that takes the story on a bit further. This is a lovely little book, even uncoloured.

Drawing:

Felicity has drawn some beautiful, patterned figures, angels, animals and flowers, but what catches my eye are the exquisite borders on the text pages. Check them out in the flip through video up above.
Mostly the text is on the left hand page with full page images on the right hand page.
There are lovely star spreads at the front and back.
The line width is consistent throughout and is fine. Now, you may choose to colour each little detail but I chose to block colour in the image up above, using the patterns as texture.
Mostly the images are clear of the spine so this won't be an issue.

Layout and Paper:

This is a smallish book (about the size of the Escape series from Good Wives & Warriors) and I really like this size. It's perfect for sharing the story with children.
The cover is a loose one, with gold highlights. There is a beautiful "this book belongs to" page. The paper is white and medium quality with a little bit of tooth. You will need to test your water based pens out, maybe on the star endpapers. Also put a protective sheet behind the image you're colouring to protect the following image.
The book is glue bound and is lying quite flat.
A little charmer!
